World Series Game 7 Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning contest that saw the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51 million viewers in the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable contest secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the complete US viewership was 16.1M. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

MLB announced that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
